The thing about living on the prairies is that you can see your enemies coming a long ways off.
The other thing about living on the prairies is that you can watch your friends leave for a long time.

For The Hunter series.

The treatment of avuncular:

The 2 kids find out that their uncle is actually their father who has been hiding.
That their actual uncle is a horrible general who is mentally bent and sick. The rest of their uncles and aunts are in hiding, afraid to deal with, kill their insane brother.

The 2 kids find all this out in stages. When they are re-united with their mother, the mother is furious that she let herself get caught (but that is the whole victim issue to be dealt with. She thinks it is her fault, but the real fault is the insane brother who needs to be dealt with.)

OMG - Think of the drama to be created as the 2 kids witness their mother deal with the insane uncle.
